ROBERTO W. BAUMAN

Born in NYC.. Worked as a graphic designer in NYC and Sweden.

I also designed The Beatles last Christmas Album.

1985.. We moved to Bessho Onsen and renovated an old farm house where I taught English and also did wood sculpting

1986.. We bought a small piece of land in the mountain about a mile from town and I began to clear it and build our own house and work studios... Building it and fixing it became my life's work

1988.. I built a kiln and began combining my wood working skills with clay to make wall objects

1993.. We established Earthworks Gallery

My works have been accepted at Japan Craft Exhibition, Asaji Modern Craft exhibition, Mino International ceramic exhibition, Menbachi bowl exhibition, published in Ceramics Monthly magazine competition

RUMI W. BAUMAN

Born in Tokyo .. studied design at Womans Art College in Tokyo .. Apprenticed for ceramic artists Motohiko Ito and Tsutsumi Ayako in Kasama, Ibaragi prefecture, after that studied back strap weaving in Guatemala, then went to NYC to do graphic design with Roberto. We decided to go to Japan and we made our life here in Bessho Onsen and went back to making ceramics.

My works have been accepted at Japan Craft, Sogetsu flower vase competition, Japan Ceramics competition, 2015 Kikuchi Biennale VI competition, third place

In the middle of Bessho Onsen we renovated an old farm house from the Taisho period to display our works and on the second floor we have exhibitions of the works of other artists.

ニューヨーク生まれ

グラフィックデザイナーとしてニューヨーク、スイス、スエーデンで活動を続ける

ビートルズクリスマスアルバムを手がける

1985年上田市に移住

中米在住の時から続けてきた木彫などの創作に取り組む

1986年 別所温泉の小高い山の中腹を切り開き自宅と工房を建て始める

今も建て増し改修が続く一生の仕事となる

1988年 工房完成後築窯 木と土の融合によるオブジェ、陶板などの創作開始

1993年 アースワークスギャラリーを設立

日本クラフト展、美濃国際陶磁器展、朝日現代クラフト展、めん鉢大賞展

アメリカンセラミックコンペティション など入選

ルミW.バウマン

東京生まれ

女子美術大学部デザイン科中退

茨城県笠間市にて伊藤東彦氏、堤綾子氏に師事

その後中米グァテマラに渡り、インディオからいざり織を学ぶ

ニューヨークに戻りロベルトと共にグラフィックデザインの仕事を始める

その後スローライフな生活に戻るため別所温泉に移住、再び作陶生活を始める

主に食器、オブジェの花器を作る

日本クラフト展、草月花の器展、日本陶芸展入選

2015 菊池ビエンナーレVI奨励賞受賞

古民家を改修したアースワークスギャラリー

2Fギャラリーでは年に数回の企画展を開催(4月～11月)
